buildings for 2,894 persons.
Eye (800th BG): Immediately south of Brome
village, Suffolk. (1 mile NW Eye.) Allocated 8AF as bomber base 10 Aug 1942.
First occupied USAAF Apr 44. Officially transferred to 8AF May 44.Transferred to
RAF 1 Nov 45. Built Sept 42 - Feb 44. Main constructors: 827th and 859th
Engineer BNs, US Army. Runways: concrete 6000ft (212), 4200ft (270) and 4200ft
(328). A/C Dispersals: 49 loops and 1 pan. Hangars: 2 dispersed T2. Camp utility
buildings for 2,894 persons.
